When Did Higher Education Become Taboo?
by Wild_Thing ini have been reading about the early history of russelites/jws and in the beginning, it seems the organization was formed and headed by quite a few educated people.
lawyers, doctors, businessman.
you could buy voting rights within the organization for $1000, which by today's standard would be somewhere between $15,000 and $20,000, something most of us do not have on hand, unless you are highly educated and/or wealthy.

If their anti-higher education stand didn't exist during Russell's tenure then it definitely must have come during Rutherford's. The main motivation would have been to have the young generation pioneer indefinitely. Remember the book Children where two youths in love forego marriage? They would have foregone an education based on their same logic. -

Are you an agronomist or a farmer? If so, I need your help. Related to Miracle Wheat
by ILoveTTATT2 ini am doing some investigation on the miracle wheat episode, and i have a question that i don't know the answer to, and i can't find the answer online.. it seems that, from what i have learnt online, that wheat is a self-pollinating, "perfect flower".
this means that once there is a strain that has a quality that's desirable, all you have to do is plant it, and that feature will remain "forever".
essentially the new plants are all clones.given that information, this statement by penton does not make sense:.

"...It soon lost its outstanding vitality..."
That is probably a reference to the fact that the wheat would not keep it's attributes after a 2nd generation.

I wonder what would happen if those in a similar position were to simply say no to the Watchtower. Mass disfellowshipping? -

How many killed by the 5 Cholera pandemics during the 1800's?
by redpilltwice inyou all know jwfacts (run by paul grundy).
on this website, under “did the last days start 1914” ---> “pestilence”, it says:“during the 1800's five cholera pandemics killed around 100 million people.” .
there is no link to any source of info, so i emailed paul and asked where i can verify that total number?

I remember reading about the Cholera pandemics, with those figures, in one of the "apostate" books. I think, If I'm not mistaken, that it was Sign Of The Last Days - When? by Carl O. Jonsson, If you don't have that book it's highly recommended that you get it; it's a treasure trove of information tailored to rebut the Watchtower.
The book included primary sources in the footnotes which might help you to track the original book that made the statement.

Most JWs won't even miss it or know that it was there to begin with. Only the intellectually minded would have bothered to have read it. -

Again: Where is Jesus?
by Wonderment inthe watchtower of december 2015 reports the following reaction of a family with four teenagers in the country of rwanda with the publication of the nwt, and how grateful they were for it.
the wt magazine said: .
things changed when the new world translation in their language became available.

Jesus is a cardboard figure for the Witnesses. Jehovah is just a sounding board for the organization, echoing anything the Watchtower wishes. For every finger they point at the sky there are three more pointing right back at them.

Should I get babtized?
by BlackWolf ini know this sounds like a ridiculous question but i was talking with my mom in the car today and of course we got on the topic of getting babtized again.
she told me that jehovah holds me accountable for my sins regardless of wether i am babtized or not so i have no reason to be holding back because it won't change anything.
my parents are the type of super strict jw who will shun you just for not being a witness.

Freddie, as others in Bethel used to call him, might have been somewhat smart (along with Charles Russell) but it was imagination that he excelled in. -

slimboyfat: "...I have often thought JWs would make a great subject for a futuristic or sci-fi novel."
Why give JWs a future?
